Male hair loss is the most common type of hair loss. It is caused by increased sensitivityto male sex hormons (androgens) in certain parts of the scalp, and passed on from generation to generation.
The hormones make the hair follicles shrink from where the hair grows. After a while, they become so small that they can't replace lost hairs. The follicles are still alive, but are not really able to do their job. There is a drug taken in tablet form, finasteride (PROPECIA) that partially blocks the effects of the male hormones (an “anti-androgen”). Propecia promote re-growth of scalphair in aproximately 80% of patients after 3 to 6 months.
Finasteride (Proscar) is a drug for treatment of beningn prostatic hyperplasia or BPH.
Proscar lowers levels of a key hormone called DTH (dihydrotestosterone), which is a major cause of prostate growth.
You may need to take Finasteride 1mg daily for 3 months or more before you see a benefit.
