Ursodiol Deursil

Ursodiol (Deursil) is a bile acid that decreases the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver and absorbed by the intestines. Ursodiol helps break down cholesterol that has formed into stones in the gallbladder. Ursodiol (Deursil) also increases bile flow in patients with primary biliary cirrhosis. Ursodiol (Deursil) is used to treat small gall stones in people who cannot have gallbladder surgery, and to prevent gallstones in overweight patients undergoing rapid weight loss. Ursodiol (Deursil) is also used to treat primary biliari cirrhosis.
Contraindications:
- Ursodiol (Deursil) will not dissolve calcified cholesterol stones, radiopaque stones, or radiolucent bile pigment stones.
- Patients with compelling reasons for cholecystectomy including unremitting acute cholecystitis, cholangitis, biliary obstruction, gallstone pancreatitis, or biliary-gastrointestinal fistula are not candidates for Ursodiol therapy.
- Allergie to bile acids.
